Matt and I hunted the new 20 with a bow and muzzleloader. A large doe came about 30 yards from Matt. We didn't get a good shot. I saw a pheasant and a grouse over the weekend.
I built a pellet stove this week for the shack I will build on the new property. It is easy to clean, small, and uses gravity to feed (No Electricity).
I spent the weekend up North and it was glorious. CJ was supposed to come but the traveling from Fargo was a little rough so he wisely decided to stay put. I spent Saturday putting a galvanized fire ring in at the new 20. Snow was coming Saturday night so I cut some wood early and made preperations to hunker down until Sunday. I usually carry a tarp so I covered my cut wood. During the winter months I keep the shack at 60 degrees. I sleep well at 60 and I can stretch my fuel that way. Sunday morning saw about 3 inches of new snow. I went back to the 20 to check for tracks and get some shots of the pretty snow.
It was another beautiful weekend up north. Matt met me on Friday night for some duck hunting. The
highlight of the weekend was seeing my new approach completed. The guys built an approach to my
new 20 acres. This was badly needed to make the land usable. The approach comes very close to the
first grove of trees. I plan to extend the driveway into those trees in a couple of years. That will
add value to the land and make it very useful to me. I did some more clearing at the new 20 this weekend
and I will install a firepit next weekend if everything goes according to plan. I built a blind to cover
the boat for duck hunting on Saturday. It worked pretty well.
Funny story.....My decoys were missing from the 40 on Saturday morning when we arrived to hunt. We spent
the day hunting without decoys. My faith in humanity was even further shaken. At the end of the day
Matt found that the decoy bag and 6 decoys had been dragged 100ft by something big. There are teeth marks
in the decoy bag. Whatever it was drug the bag to solid ground (the bag was hidden deep in the swamp). The
animal lost interest after further investigation. I guess I'm packing the decoys in as well. I also met
a hippie named Chuck who lives in a bus at the end of my gravel road. He is building a cabin on a 20 acre
spot he purchased. Another good guy that will be fun to get to know.
