Weekend of May 22nd, 2022

I'm a bit behind on postings here...it's been a little crazy. Last weekend I did a bunch more work on the driveway. I had to extend it by 30 feet. We had an enormous amount of rain two weeks ago. I have a picture of all the water. I had to add drainage. This weekend I added two culverts and some more gravel. My daughter visited the shack and new property for the first time. It was fun to have her up. The last picture is of the finished product. My contractor spread the gravel on the 24th. Hippie Chuck sent me the picture that is below. I will see it this coming weekend.

I stayed at the shack Friday and Saturday night. Matt joined me on Saturday to continue with my driveway build. We layed another 50ft of underlayment and did alot of clearing. It is starting to look like a driveway. I need to lay another 30ft of underlayment next and clear some more trees next weekend. We visited Hippie Chuck who lives in a bus about 1 3/4 north of me. I caught a snake. I also spent some time working with my new HF radio. It is a Yaesu FT 891. I threw up a real quick 50 ft loop for receiving so that I could at least get on the air and see how the radio brings in signals. It is so good. I love it. I can't wait to work with some antennas that will allow me to transmit. I heard signals from all over the U.S. today. This radio has enough power so that if I hear a station, I should be able to hit it with a decent antenna.

Weekend of May 1st, 2022

I had Friday off so I stayed at the shack Thursday night and Friday night. It was pretty rainy on Saturday so I finished my indoor work and went home. I had a great weekend and got alot accomplished. Friday consisted of chopping the frozen swamp bumps down so I could lay my underlayment fabric. I layed 60 ft of fabric and will lay another 50 next weekend. I met with my two contractors on Friday morning and the plan for doing the driveway is still on for June. Last weekend they dropped off a few yards for me to spread on the fabric. I finished the bunk ladder and painted the floor where the bathroom wall used to be on Saturday morning. I made friends with a porcupine that was on my property. We respected each others personal space like good Minnesotans.
